Radiology Technologist
Job Summary - Responsible for radiographic examinations utilizing diagnostic radiographic equipment. Provides direct patient care to patients of all ages. Contributes to the efficient operation of the department, ensuring the quality and continuity of patient care. Assist in the clinical training of radiologic technology students. Responsible for patient prepping, performing procedures and processing exam for radiologic interpretation. Under the direction of the Radiology Supervisor.
Essential Responsibilities of the Position:
• Responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing treatment and use of equipment.
Responsible for safe handling of equipment.
• Instructs and prepares patients for ultrasound, CT and x-rays.
• Selects appropriate equipment to use for procedure.
• Determines most suitable anatomical posture and positions and shields patients accordingly.
• Able to assess patient pain interfering with imaging procedure - makes appropriate physician contact for intervention.
• Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
• Makes special radiographic examinations requiring special equipment and procedures.
• Programs portable or stationary equipment and makes images for a variety of examinations.
• Assists in training of students and ancillary personnel.
Performs QC checks on equipment and maintains logs, as appropriate.
• Produces images of internal organs and records diagnostic data.
• Obtains permanent record of internal examination by examination images of organs.
• Positions and shields patients accordingly.
Transfers images to PACS.
• Keeps procedure room clean and neat, makes minor equipment adjustments as needed.
• Performs mobile and surgical procedures to assist with patient diagnosis in the surgical suites and patient’s rooms.
• Assists in maintaining basic records and reports.
• Performs clerical duties, transports patients as required, processes images and maintains proper inventory of supplies.
Administers contrast media and other medications under the direction of the radiologist.
• Assists in the clinical education of student radiographer and other health care professionals in teaching institutions.
• Maintains licensure/certification through continuing education.
• Works at all times under the direction of the radiologist.
Performs highest quality imaging consistent with prescribed examination; documents and deviation.
• Understands and practices proper use of all equipment; never operates equipment inconsistent with manufacturer’s instructions.

• Attends at least 75% of staff meetings; read, sign, and return all monthly staff meeting minutes if absent.

• Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
• Observes infection control practices at all times.
Participates in staff training and education programs.
Regulatory Requirements:
• AAS degree or hospital-based training certification required. Bachelor’s degree in radiologic technology preferred.
• Graduation from an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology, either college affiliated or hospital trained preferred. (Rad, CT, NucMed).
• Certified by the State of Texas to practice and administer radiation (Rad).
• ARRT and/or CRT certification required for radiologic registry within 90 days of employment.
• Department of State Health Services (DSHS) Certification required (except for Ultrasound).
• Eligible for MRI, CT, Nuclear Med, Echo, Ultrasound, Mammography, DEXA registry preferred
• Current BLS for healthcare providers’ certification required.
• Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Additional languages preferred.
• Computer knowledge necessary, including proficiency in Word and Windows.
Physical Requirements:
• Job requirements include, but are not limited to: sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending, squatting and reaching. Requires good finger dexterity, repetitive motions with hands and fingers. Requires ability to have good vision and hearing. Pushing and pulling equipment may be necessary.
• Job requires heavy lifting on an occasional basis.
