Occupational Therapist - Physical Rehabilitation
Job Summary: Provides Occupational Therapy Services to patients referred, including assessment, treatment plan development and implementation with the follow-up and discharge planning. Actively assists with clinical aspects of the department, including program development, department operations and Performance Improvement activities. Assists with supervising the Occupational Therapy Assistant. Supervised by the Rehabilitation Director.
Essential Responsibilities of the Position:
The Occupational Therapist evaluates patients, sets goals, plans treatment programs and treat patients according to physician's orders; maintains required records and notes on patient care; assumes responsibility for patient charges; provides technical advice to support personnel and supervision of same.
You will evaluate patients who have impairments, functional limitations, disabilities or changes in physical function and health status resulting from injury, disease, or other causes, synthesizes the data to establish a plan of care with therapeutic interventions and goals appropriate to patient's age and development.
You will document evaluations, treatments, plan of care, charges, and discharge summaries utilizing professional jargon that supports skilled therapeutic necessity and the charges incurred in a concise and timely manner.
You will determine the efficacy of therapeutic interventions, technologies and outcomes and the utilization of COTA's, students and support personnel.
As the Occupational Therapist, you will interact and confer with a variety of professionals including physicians, nurses, case management, PT's and SLP's to implement and assess the intervention program.
Provides continuity of care by developing and implementing patient management plans.
Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations; adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
Maintains production objectives by noting current treatment trends; monitoring actual occupational therapy services rendered to production objectives.
Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Maintains department cleanliness and safety.
Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care.
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
Enhances rehabilitation therapy and hospital reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
Communicates appropriately and clearly to physicians, staff and administrative team.
Confer with rehabilitation staff and others to discuss and evaluate patient information for planning, modifying and coordinating treatment.
Maintains legal and accreditation compliance by adhering to policy positions concerning federal, state, and local regulations, and CMS standards; anticipating emerging issues.
Observe patients during treatments to compile and evaluate data on patients' responses and progress, and report to occupational therapist and rehabilitation director.
Maintains records pertinent to staff and operation of the department.
Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
Maintains a good working relationships both within the department and with other departments.
Consults other departments as appropriate to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities.
Maintains performance improvements activities for department.
Documentation meets current standards and policies.
Professional Requirements:
Adheres to Standard of Behavior.
Attends at least 75% of staff meetings; read, sign, and return all monthly staff meeting minutes if absent.
Strictly maintains patient confidentiality and abides by all HIPAA Privacy and HIPAA Security rules.
Communicates the mission, vision, and values of the Hospital as well as the focus statement of the department.
Actively participates in the department and hospital-wide goals.
Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
Documentation meets current standards and policies.
Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.
Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
Observes infection control practices at all times.
Participates in staff training and education programs.
Position Requirements:
●Graduate of an approved Occupational Therapy Assistant curriculum.
●Three (3) or more years of previous experience in all aspects of occupational therapy assistant.
●In good standing with all regulatory and licensing agencies.
●Current BLS certification.
●Able to communicate effectively in English, both verballly and in writing. Additional languages preferred.
●Basic Computer skills.
Physical Requirements:
●Job requirements include, but are not limited to: sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending, squatting and reaching. Requires good finger dexterity, repetitive motions with hands and fingers. Requires ability to have good vision and hearing. Pushing and pulling equipment may be necessary.
●Job requires heavy lifting on an occasional basis.
